Please note that cell phone service in the mountains is unreliable; communicating by phone can be frustrating, so I suggest printing these directions.

Directions from the Northeast

We are providing you with three different travel options. The first will take you into Asheville and back up to the yurt. The second and third options offer more scenic and rural routes; it is almost a wash as to which is faster. If you need to stop for groceries, there is an Ingles Grocery on 213 before the main street of Mars Hill (options 2 & 3), another at 19/23 South and 63 (option 1), a third on Highway 63 about 5 miles north of 19/23 South, (option 1), and another while driving to Hot Springs on 25/70 near the town of Marshall (option 3).

Option #1: Into Asheville and then Northwest

Take I-26 (old 19/23) south approaching Asheville. Take exit 3A, then 19/23 South exit to the right , then get into a left lane as you cross the bridge onto business 19/23 South (even though you are now going west). You will go about 5 stoplights and turn right at Ingles Grocery. This is Hwy 63 and there is a small sign that says New Leicester Highway (it only goes to the right). This intersection is at a stoplight and Hwy 63 begins here. You will go north about 27 miles and will find yourself at the top of Doggett Mountain. If you reset your odometer at the top of Doggett Mountain, we are just shy of 3 miles down on the other side. Please put your vehicle into a lower gear before going down the other side to prevent constant use of your brakes. On your right you will see a sign for Wild Forest Road and then the Briar Rose Farm and the street sign Duckett Top Tower Road. You are almost there, go past Casa Viva on the right, which is on our property and proceed till you see our driveway past our house and the picket fence. Pull in at the mailbox marked 1951. Park behind the barn.

Option #2: More direct and scenic route

Should you wish to take the more scenic and rural route, exit 19/23, or the new I-26, at Mars Hill on Route 213, continuing straight on. This will take you through Mars Hill, 8 miles further under 25/70, and to a T-intersection at the French Broad River, where you will turn right. A few blocks further and you will be in beautiful downtown Marshall. At the stoplight in front of the county courthouse, turn left and go over the French Broad River Bridge. Continue up the hill on the other side and turn right at the T-intersection (sign will say Rectors Corner). Continue on this road until you come to the T-intersection with Highway 63 (about 10 miles). Turn right on 63 and go to the top of Doggett Mountain, about 5 miles. If you reset your odometer at the top of Doggett Mountain, we are just shy of 3 miles down on the other side. Again, put your vehicle in a lower gear as you come down the mountain to save your brakes.

Option #3: Another scenic route

Should you wish to go to Hot Springs before coming to the yurt, you can follow the second set of directions getting onto Hwy 213 from I-26 at Mars Hill. Follow 213 only as far as Hwy 25/70, maybe 7 miles. Go north on Highway 25/70 into Hot Springs. Proceed through town and go straight where 25/70 turns right, this will be Hwy 209 (I believe the sign will indicate Lake Juneluska 39 miles). Take 209 south about 15 miles to the fork at Trust, NC. This is the intersection with Hwy 63. Go left on Hwy 63 towards Asheville and we are 2 miles on your

left. Pull in at the mailbox marked 1951. Park behind the barn.

Directions from the Northwest

Leaving Knoxville on I-40, driving time will be just under two hours. After entering North Carolina and passing the Welcome Center, you will exit at exit #15, Fines Creek; turn left at the bottom of the ramp. You will go approximately 5 miles (this is a guess), passing the Fines Creek Community Center, an old stone building on your left. Shortly after this, you will come to a stop sign; turn right and proceed over the new bridge for about 1/2 mile to the intersection of 209; this is located at a small gas station/store called Ferguson Supply, turn left here. (209 also goes straight toward Lake Juneluska).

After turning left, you will go 11 miles over Betsy’s Gap. Please remember to put your vehicle in a lower gear so you do not have to be on the brakes all the time when coming down the mountain. You will pass Luck, NC, and you will be near Trust, NC. At the corner just past the Trust General Store and Cafe on your right, you will turn a sharp right onto Hwy 63. We are 2 miles down on Hwy 63 on the left. Pull in at the mailbox marked 1951. Park behind the barn.

 Directions from the West

These directions are from the area south and west of Asheville. They will begin on 441 through Franklin, NC. Continue north on 441/23 through Franklin, passing Dillsboro and turn right (East) on 23/74 toward Waynesville. Past the Waynesville exits you will take the Lake Juneluska/Hot Springs Exit, which is Hwy 209. Follow the signs towards Hot Springs. You will go approximately 10 miles until Hwy 209 makes a right turn. This is located at a small gas station/store called Ferguson Supply (209 also goes straight toward Interstate I40 again). After turning right, you will go 11 miles over Betsy’s Gap. Please remember to put your vehicle in a lower gear so you do not have to be on the brakes all the time when coming down the mountain. You will pass Luck, NC, and you will be near Trust, NC. At the corner just past the Trust General Store and Cafe on your right, you will turn a very sharp right onto Hwy 63. We are 2 miles down on Hwy 63 on the left. Pull in at the mailbox marked 1951. Park behind the barn.

 Directions from the South

As you drive on I-26 and get close to Asheville, you will come to a three way split. This occurs at exits 31A and B. The first sign to the right says Hickory, the middle one says Asheville and that is the one you want. This will take you in a circle around Asheville first going north, then east; you will be on I -240 East. As you pass the first few exits, get into the left lane and stay there looking for 19/23 South. This will be Exit 3A. (Yes, you will be going WEST on 19/23 South, go figure!) Stay in the left hand lane as you cross the bridge. You then have about 5 stoplights to get over to the right hand lane. You will be looking for Highway 63, otherwise known as New Leicester Highway. There is a large Ingles Grocery at the stoplight at this intersection, (there is another larger Ingles Grocery between here and the cabin, but no other large food stores beyond that). Turn here and go about 27 miles on Highway 63; this will take you to the top of Doggett Mountain. If you reset your odometer at the top of Doggett Mountain, we are just shy of 3 miles down on the other side. Please remember to put your vehicle in a lower gear so you do not have to be on the brakes all the time when coming down the mountain.

You will go to the right to get onto I -240 West. As you pass the first few exits, get into the left lane and stay there looking for Exit 3A, which is 19/23 South. Stay in the left lane until you are past the bridge. (Yes, you will be going WEST on 19/23 South, go figure!) You then have about 4 stoplights to get over to the right hand lane.
